My first graders are at the beginning of their educational journey. One where they are becoming fluent readers and learning how stories can take them on all kinds of adventures. Morning meeting is a place where children can hear stories read aloud with fluency and expression. It is also a place where we build our classroom family through activities and discussion time. In a positive classroom community students feel included and learn important social skills. They feel safe to express themselves and share their thoughts and ideas. Our morning meeting time has become more complicated with the reality of social distancing and virtual learning. The rug we currently have to use for morning meeting doesn't provide enough space to practice safe social distancing. With your help, my students will be able to continue to participate in morning meeting with individual rug squares and digital morning meeting activities. The individual carpet squares set will allow each student to have their own rug and will allow for safe social distancing while meeting in the classroom. They will also provide another safe classroom space where students can be engaged in their learning and have a chance to get away from their desks. The digital morning meeting activities will provide a way for the children to practice important concepts whether they are learning at school or at home. My students have been socially isolated from their classmates for an extended amount of time. I would like to be able to give them a sense of normalcy in a safe way. Your generous donation will provide materials that will allow my first graders the opportunity to enjoy our morning meeting time and will be used for years to come.
