My 3rd grade students love reading. The books will assist in developing and enhancing their reading and comprehension skills. As a Leader in Me Academy, my students will apply their leadership skills to accomplish their personal reading goals. Also as honor academy students, having access to books they love will help them continue their growth in literacy which is a key factor in being selected for the class. Children also need to have multiple opportunities and and a variety of literature to read. Today, most students have access to a tablet whereby they can easily access an e-book. Not all of my students have this type of technology at home. Increasing the number of books in the class library, extends their opportunity to read for enjoyment, and allow them to have access to independent reading books in and outside of the classroom. Additionally, the students developed the list of books they wanted to add to the library. Demonstrating their leadership skills, the students, also in anticipation of expanding the class library, collaboratively developed a re-design plan for the library area of the classroom.
