We are a diverse k-5 elementary school in the New York City public school system. Our students come from countries spread far and wide around the globe. According to the New York Times, "In the 2000 census report, fewer than 20 percent of the households reported that English was the only language spoken at home. More than half also speak Spanish. And Arabic, Chinese, French (including Cajun and Creole), Greek, Hindi, Korean, Polish, Russian, Urdu and Yiddish were among the more than 30 languages tallied." Our school seeks to save this diverse population with an array of special programs including school wide enrichment and arts programs. We are "The Magnet School for Cultural and Performing Arts" but due to a steep dip in funding this year we have had to make due with much less. In spite of this challenge our school receives high grades from our parents on our NYC School Survey for the most recent school year.
