I teach math, science, and social studies to 5th grade Gifted students. I try to plan lessons to get them to think outside the box, but this is often difficult for them. My daily instruction consists of whole group instruction by accessing the textbook on the Smart board. From there, students break out into groups for independent work and I work with students in small groups. This is where my students become bored and off task, since their independent work involves working out problems and answering questions from the textbook and/or worksheets. Gifted students need more than this. My students are very curious, always asking questions, and always wanting to know more. I need to provide them with enrichment activities that will enhance their education, not just provide them with busy work.
