My student's ideas were to continue building up our new goal of creating a fitness center for students to use during P.E! Illinois has initiated a new Enhanced P.E. model that is fitness based and now requires all P.E. teachers to submit fitness scores to the state each year. New fitness equipment will help students build on their health and fitness knowledge while allowing them to create fitness goals!
The students requested more equipment because they loved the fitness equipment I purchased last year! Exercise and fitness equipment can be very expensive, and with a very limited P.E. yearly budget it would take many years to obtain this awesome equipment. The students plan to use the materials to further increase their knowledge on fitness and to use the equipment to lead a health-enhancing lifestyle in and outside of school. Some of the equipment in my cart includes:
- Kettle Bells (teach about building strength, which will benefit them during the push-up and pull-up fitness tests).
-Medicine balls (core strengthening movements to help with sit ups).
-Vertical Jump test (teach about power and to help train for the agility portion of fitness testing).
- Ab wheel (students can work on building their core muscles, which would benefit them during the abdominal fitness test).
-Sit & Reach Box (used for Fitnessgram testing to test flexibility).
-Yoga Mats (teach students about various yoga positions and for stretching practice).
I strive to build a Children's Fitness Center in our school so that students can learn about leading a healthy lifestyle and have fun in the process!
