The physical learning environment plays a critical role in the acquisition of new skills. One of these factors, seating, is within our circle of control. Have you ever sat in a training or a meeting in an uncomfortable chair, only to realize you were more focused on your comfort level instead of the information you were supposed to be learning? Children are no different! When they are sitting in uncomfortable furniture, the focus on learning is shifted to their state of being as opposed to the content being taught. By providing alternative seating options, students are given more control over their learning. For instance, they aren't distracted by the hardness of the chair or sitting on the floor. Additionally, they are strengthening core muscles, which helps to create a healthier child. Lastly, they are given the power to choose what condition is BEST for them.
