Flexible seating allows my students to make decisions about their learning and to maintain their focus and attention for longer periods of time to enhance their learning. During independent work times the students choose a location in the classroom that benefits them. Currently my students choose a variety of flexible seating such as move and sit cushions, rocking chair and therapy balls. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them while they learn. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice with their seating. For example, district assessment scores have increased due to the use of flexible seating because students are able to focus better during the test.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement through use of independent work stations.
There are up to 12 students at a time in my resource room and having a dry erase table would be extremely beneficial because the students can work in a math stations independently while I take small groups for instruction. It would give me an opportunity to examine their work on the table. This station with the dry erase table would allow for more student engagement, independence and less off task behavior by the students.
