My students all live on the Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation in Arizona. The reservation has many villages scattered throughout the land and my students live in these villages. There are about 150 students in my school and many of them ride for up to an hour on a bus in order to attend their classes. They face the same problems as all teenagers but are basically all very happy and well mannered. I have about 45 students in my two Earth Science classes and these students are all eager to learn things about their environment. Some of the things we discuss include: local mountains, what minerals are mined in the area, what planets are visible, and when does the space station go over the reservation. Even though many of them live below the poverty level and have to ride many long hours to and from school, they are eager to learn and absorb the knowledge as fast as I can present it to them.
