I am a first year English teacher instructing students at a Title I, New York City all girl's public school, which strives to provide a premier STEM and college bound education for girls in urban areas. My students, who range from ELL's to advanced readers, cherish their independent reading time. I am constantly impressed by how a popular book or series can spread like wildfire across a class. Unfortunately, my school does not have a main library; students are often limited in their choice of reading materials to the books teachers have in their individual classroom libraries. I would like to add new books to my classroom library in order to maintain their high level of engagement in reading, as well as to target low and high level readers with appropriate texts in order to develop their literacy skills.
