I just recently attended a two day conference with the Behavior Doctor, Laura Riffel. She has done research and stressed the importance of students needing some sort of cushion help keep them focused on those hard chairs everyday. She even talked about how the tailbone is different on a male than a female and that this is why it is more uncomfortable for males to sit than females. It also helps with ADHD students that need to move more frequently than others. Laura Riffel also talked about having a calming station in your classroom for the students that have outbursts and just need a place to calm down. At this station I plan to have this black chair along with calming music, that is 60 bpm which is the resting heart beat, pictures of nature to help calm, and a breathing activity as well.
