Allowing time for student inquiry and passion to guide learning is an often overlooked aspect in the classroom. It is my desire to spark creative genius while building classroom community and allow students to follow their interests; scaffolding learning throughout the process. Student inquiry will be initiated by providing community building challenges using Sphero, Stickbots and more as they explore resources and solidify topics of interest. These resources will provide an introductory experience for students with many real world applications including film making, engineering, construction, robotics, art, communication and creative expression. The books will guide classroom discussions as students begin to think about their future endeavors and goals. The initial launch will include mini lessons that will allow them to explore new concepts, work to overcome challenges, collaborate with classmates, plan a project and eventually work towards completion of their individual goals. The iPods will connect to several technology aspects (including the Sphero, Stickbots, and Google Cardboard) that will serve to build collaboration and problem solving among students as they explore new concepts and apply skills in novel ways. After students explore their interests and passions they will design a project based on their individual goals using these and other resources I have worked to acquire. I will provide guided support while adapting to student needs throughout the genius hour. With the books, technology and other supplies, students will be able to create projects as they follow their interests and share their work with others in authentic ways.
