Kindergarten kids need hands-on materials and books to help them learn to read at their level. Once they know and understand all of the letters and sounds of the English language, they will take off with reading. The play dough alphabet mats are a fun way to learn the letters. Since they are reusable, my students can use them over and over as a fun way to practice the alphabet. Once they know the letters and sounds, they will be able to build words with the letter dice. After practicing reading for a while, my students will often get to the higher levels of guided reading. I don't have any reading materials for the higher Kindergarten reading levels. Several of my students need upper level reading books that will challenge them and help them grow as readers.
