I teach 4th and 5th grade math at a Title One school where we have 83% free and reduced breakfast/lunch counts. The students come from a lower social/economical culture. They come into our school not knowing the basics facts such as letters and numbers. They struggle through the earlier grades due to the lack of parental support. They lack at times motivation and work ethic to do a good job at school. I have found, however, that computer games capture their attention and hold it. When they get to me in 4th and 5th grade, they will go to a computer station and work diligently to master the skills ask of them. When learning is fun, they catch on and absorb the skills needed for the classroom. I have scene great growth and success with using computers for the drill and practice aspect of teaching and need more resources to accomplish my goals for my students.
