My students are eager to learn, which is surprising for high school. They enjoy using technology to learn, but have little to no access to it outside of school hours. The majority are well below the poverty level. We have $100 per year to spend on our classes, and that is gone quickly with consumables. If assigned a project, most students must use school materials to complete the work, otherwise they have no materials or money at home with which to acquire the materials needed. Many students are special education which requires them to have material read to them, yet many refuse the help because of the embarrassment of being singled out. They are much more receptive if the help is private and technology based. We had iPods for this, but they are aging and unreliable.
