As a first year teacher I have began to think critically about what I want my scholars to get mostly from this academic year and have repeatedly said I want my scholars to embrace who they are as individuals. This means giving them more opportunities to read about races and ethnicity like themselves or different. Especially in today's America this is very critical for students to know how important they are. Most of the books I have requested for my classroom are major books discussing race and ethnicity for first graders. These books will rise conversations for students and also use these books as a reference to discuss even bigger topics in society. I have also ordered three iPads for my classroom. Technology definitely plays a major role in learning for youth and our school is limited with technology especially for the lower elementary. The more exposure for opportunities to read, the more positive of an impact it will have on our scholars.
