We are a Title 1 school with over 60% of our kids on free and reduced lunch. We want our students to have opportunities to be successful on the test. Many of our students come to school without the "brain food" they need to get them through the day. Having snacks for them before they take the test will fuel their minds, and get them ready to do their best. Our 4 classrooms are lacking nice, quality sharpeners. The use of pencils is more important than ever this year. The writing, math, and reading portions of the Smarter Balance test will require our students to use pencils to show work, take notes, and find evidence. Gum is a tool that we use during testing to help kids that are easily distracted stay focused, and give all students something to look forward to that is usually not allowed in the classroom.
