My students are strong readers with a passion to learn for themselves. Our school works with each student to develop an individual learning plan based on their specific needs and learning styles. Using Literature Circles, I can make sure all of my students find a book they love to read and develop a love of reading as well. Each of my Literature Circles units is directly connected to my Social Studies unit, providing all students with an additional way to connect with both history and current social issues in our world. Many of my students come from homes that have suffered or are dealing with trauma. Having a good book to dig into in class helps them escape that story for a bit and enter someone else's life.
