In my school,as a counselor, my students chronically struggle with attendance and engagement. Often times, not having adequate breakfast or hygiene items can trigger students absenteeism. In my experience, students who struggle to have their basic need of hunger met, are more likely to be absent because they feel nervous and are easily overwhelmed. My hope is to create an environment where students and I engage in a positive relationship. I hope that the hygiene items and the snacks will help conquer hunger. Then, students will be able to reengage in their learning. Students will know that they can stop by my office to grab hygiene items or a snack. I hope that by having the essentials supplies, I can help alleviate hunger and help students to be more focused on their education.
