Our school desires to make some much needed changes necessary to teach 21st century students. Children are active and many are diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. Instead of trying to change the basic make-up of my students, I would like to meet these students where they are and encourage more movement in my classroom. Our school has already moved to a workshop approach for literacy and is moving that direction in other core subjects as well. The workshop approach encourages small-group lessons and tasks instead of whole-group lectures. This allows teaching and learning to be more individualized.
