This year, most of my class is below grade level. I am practically a 1st grade teacher, teaching second grade standards. They are students who need attention and time to improve in the reading skills. A few of them have home lives that affect their desire to learn, but at school, we try to refocus their attention to what skills they need to get to college. We focus on their future careers. Our school is decorated with college logos and we have each class present their adopted college during our morning assembly. It has a college-going culture. So much so that we get donations from the colleges that we promote! I want my students to focus on their future and the skills needed to succeed in it. This is something that they can change.
