My students are Kindergarten ESL ages 5-6 years old. They come from over 11 different countries though many were born in Queens. They are coming to school for the first time and they are curious, eager to learn and explore new places, ideas and experiences. My school is a warm learning environment with a principal and staff that are committed to the education and emotional well being of all our students. Every effort is made to support students in an academic or social issue. Unfortunately, our school funds are severely taxed and we currently lack proper funds for the ESL population and their special needs. Some basic teacher supports in the classroom, like a chart stand and whiteboard are lacking from my ESL Kindergarten room. It is difficult to write charts and visuals on the wall or on a nearby door and students are not as focused on the carpet as a result. I hope to be the beneficiary of donorschoose generosity and am starting out with this modest request. Thanks
