I teach a class of kindergarten students who attend a public elementary school in California. They are enthusiastic about learning and their parents are grateful for every opportunity the school can provide their children. Most students come from a low socioeconomic background and speak English as a second language. Each year, I have several students in the class who have special needs. Even those students who do not have special needs have little prior school experience. They often struggle to fit into the general education environment. Creating an environment in which all students feel welcome and successful will enhance success for each and every student.
