My students are Novice High to Intermediate Low Spanish learners. Many have been Spanish students for over four years, and they love showing how much they are capable of in their second language. In order to continue challenging them and reinforcing other content areas, I love utilizing comprehensible novellas with them. We are finishing our last book by Blaine Ray right now, and I am blown away by how much my students can understand and express. I want to continue motivating them to learn, grow, and excel in Spanish. I believe this book would be a wonderful next step for them. In the interest of utilizing Spanish education to foster the growth of strong leaders who care about their communities and bettering the world around them, I try to teach topics that relate to my students and our society's needs. My students have engaged in units about climate change, poverty, and racism, among other themes. They are incredibly bright and love the challenge of expressing how they would make the world a better place, all in Spanish. I am excited about the opportunity to teach students about animal poaching and environmental issues in Costa Rica, which they can relate to issues in their own community around animal violence. I think this will be a wonderful resource for them, and for all of my classes in years to come
