I want to inspire my students to love reading! When my students see a stuffed animal, their eyes open wide and they have a beaming smile! Students are expected to make the most gains in reading in first grade. First graders are expected to be able to read independently for 45 minutes by the end of the year! Throughout first grade, students are taught to read with expression, decode words and understand what they are reading. Reading with a stuffed animal gives the students a daily opportunity to practice what they have learned! I have seen my students self confidence and reading improve after reading to a stuffed animal. Many students make over a years growth in reading!!
