The tablets that I am requesting will be put to much needed use. Unfortunately, the majority of the students in our school are members of at risk poverty families. When our students are surveyed regarding the use of technology at home many of them admittedly confess that there is no wifi/internet and no tech devices at their disposal, with the exception of a re-purposed cell phone. With these tablets my students will embrace technology head on. Pencil and paper work will become secondary to the use of technology to participate in class discussions. They are a generation beyond white boards and markers! Canvas can be implemented for group discussions and feedback. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate with peers, respond through various programs, and immediately receive feedback. They will realize first hand that tablets and iPads are good for more than just games. Virtual field trips will be possible! Students will discover life beyond the boundaries of this city; beyond the boundaries of this state! This simple form of technology has the capability of broadening their minds and giving them a fair shot at succeeding in this 21st century.
