Students manage the stress and obligations of a school day in various ways. Some students do not yet have the tools they need to manage their own stress and therefore may react impulsively, aggressively, and/or emotionally. When these emotions take over, students struggle to learn and grow academically. I want to create a space where students can calm their minds and bodies in order to regain the ability to focus in the classroom. There is a room in Quitman County Middle School where a multisensory center can be set up for students. I want to purchase sensory items for this room. The goal for having the multisensory center is to allow students who need to take breaks during the school day to have a way to calm down and refocus their attention to academics. Sometimes students need extra help in regulating their emotions and bodies and the multisensory center would be one tool to help them develop these skills.
