My students need the cost of bus transportation covered so we can go on 14 trips throughout the year to our local elementary school to work with our preschool book buddies. For the middle school students, I hope that working with the preschoolers will help the students better understand their own competence, leading to more self-confidence and a can-do attitude that can spread to their work and academic pursuits. There is also a benefit to the preschoolers because they get middle school mentors who work one on one with them. We already have paired up with a local preschool Head Start program. We will go to the elementary school every other Thursday and the students will be paired up with a book buddy. The 8th grade students will read to their partners, work on special projects together, celebrate holiday events, and help with academic activities. As students work within their community, they will learn that they can be responsible for making great things happen. This will help to build a sense of responsibility in students, and a sense of pride when
