My students love to learn but they are limited in 21st century skills because they do not have access to technology. They attend an inner city school with over 1600 students that has been serving the community for over 50 years. Over twenty percent of the student body are on free or reduced lunch. Even with these limitations there is a strong rapport between students and staff where several staff are alumni. Classroom supplies are limited to paper for copying and pencils for students. There are no smart boards, projectors, working televisions or a classroom set of calculators for math students. Yet through this students care about their grades and work to reach their potential. My goal is to excite my students in the learning of mathematics and to show them how it applies to their world through the use of graphing calculators. My personal quote is "Never, ever, give up" and I use this to constantly to find new ways of reaching my students.
