The picture attached is the collaboration of 3rd grade boys and girls, from my past library, who successfully designed a Cubelet robot that traveled a course they built. At my old school, I watched students grow and bloom in self-confidence as they explored inquiry-based learning through the design process by utilizing the tools in Makerspace. Makerspaces add a new creative dimension to libraries by allowing students to discover information through the platform of hands-on learning. However, I am at a new school that has no Makerspace materials available for students. I have no doubts that bringing the beginnings of a Makerspace using the Builder Construction sets and the Cubelets to my students will develop creating, constructing, collaborating and contributing communities of learners.
