My students are amazing! My students hail from a New Jersey city, where they are on the front lines of inner city living. Their lives are surrounded by violence, out of wedlock pregnancy, teenage pregnancy, drug addiction, and other characteristics that make up inner city American poverty. Although my children are surrounded by challenging circumstances, they continue to rise above them. They come to school with an open mind and open heart. This year, our school is implementing a new social emotional learning curriculum that will be taught during homeroom periods everyday. As the newly appointed social emotional learning coordinator, I will also be welcoming students to a Mindful Sanctuary where they can come to reflect on their lives and recent choices. Our school is full of positive teachers who believe our children have the right to a good education. We have created a school that is truly a family.
