My students range from Kindergarten to fifth grade and from newcomers to advanced speaker still acquiring academic English. They are definitely minorities in their classrooms, as they are in parts of town with relatively few ESL students. The great majority of my students are low-income immigrants, from many places such as the Philippines, Micronesia, Central America and Romania. Many are also refugees from war-torn areas such as Iraq and Congo.
