My students are mostly from Somalia or the Middle East. We have a 100% poverty rating and over half of our students are ESL (English as a Second Language) learners. They love to learn new things in Science because they get to see things that are happening in the world around them. They can make connections and have a deeper understanding of the content. The students in our school have difficulty in reading due to their ESL status. We need more books and magazines that are going to keep them interested and engaged in reading. My school is a growing academy that is need of resources that are not provided by the administration or school board. Many times our teachers provide supplemental resources paid out of our own money. The text books in our school are older and often outdated so finding current event materials is crucial.
