I teach in a culturally diverse 8-12 grade high school in a rural location. Over 70% of our students receive free and reduced price lunches. We try to do the best with what we have but our funding is limited and there is no money allotted for any extras. We have adopted a flexible schedule which allows our students up to 4 hours a week to complete homework, work in groups with their peers or meet with teachers during office hours. Students can fit anywhere from 6 to 8 classes into their semester schedule, allowing more time for AP classes, college-credit classes, electives, and CTE courses.
