My students come from mostly Hispanic and Jamaican immigrant families. They are incredible! They are very excited about helping the children in Nepal who are less fortunate than they are even though many of my students come from extreme poverty. My school is a small engineering themed urban high school with 95 % of the students qualifying for free and reduced breakfast and lunches. The children in my school have hearts of gold when it comes to helping others in need. In 2013, eight students of the Academy of Engineering and Green Technology, working with business and community mentors made national news by designing, building, and installing an off grid solar/wind hybrid power system for Saldang, a remote village in the Dolpa region of Nepal. Currently, the system provides electricity for the school and birthing center. The students are excited about doing it again with the Nepal 2.0 project in full swing.
