My students come from families that live below the 200% poverty level. They come into preschool with usually no experience of the structure that is expected in school. They have a lot to learn about functioning as an individual in a group setting. They also have to learn how to have the skills to listen to someone other than their parents, follow directions, and have the cognitive skills to become a life long learner. It is important in preschool to continue to rotate materials and present concepts in a variety of ways to engage children and get them excited about learning. They are expected to leave my class with many literacy, math, social studies and self control skills. It is definitely a year long process! My school is in an urban area. It is a great place to be!
