Our school is located in a small rural town with only one red-light, a Dollar General Store, a handful of small restaurants, and a few gas stations. Our students rarely have opportunities to venture outside of our small town, but they enter our school excited and eager to learn. After breakfast at school, their favorite thing to do is listen to the teacher read. Their eyes light up when the teacher says, "It's reading time!" Many of our students do not have books at home or access to books outside of school. However, once they enter Kindergarten, they begin to develop a love for reading that you can see on their faces when the librarian, their teacher, mentors, or others read to them. Anna Quindlen said, "Books are the plane, the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home." Help us provide books in the homes of every student who enters Kindergarten so that their homes can be filled with vehicles to help them on the journey to their destination.
