My students are a very special bunch. Our school serves over 600 students and is one of 32 schools in our district. Our school is a low performing school in a program improvement district. My students come from a high poverty neighborhood. They don't have very much. It's the simple joys and tasks that bring happiness to their lives. However, most are very low academically. Nonetheless, they are expected to graduate with the skills necessary to succeed at a 4 year university. A high percentage of my students are at least a grade level or two behind and this must change quickly for them to succeed. It is my hope to create a learning environment where hands-on learning is so much fun, that it supersedes any barrier and encourages students to advance academically through intrinsic motivators. My goal is also to push those students that need that extra challenge!
