We are a small school in a remote area. My students are mostly nonnative English speakers who have very little awareness of the world outside of this small "town." Nearly 80% of our students qualify for free lunch. They have no reading materials at home and the entire battle to build literacy is fought here at school. For the majority of these students, their parents are not literate and they will be the first generation to be fully literate if we win this war!
