My 4th graders are an ambitious and creative group of students. We have little time for art class so I have a lunch art group that meets on Wednesdays. Many students want to draw and write. My students are now in the middle stages of writing their books. I can say 16 pages seemed a daunting task to many of them, however now that they are committed to the completion of their books, they look forward to illustrating their stories. Many low and average students are more creative than usual and excited, so much that they will ask me if they can take their stories out with them at recess to keep their writing flowing. Our school has many activities in place for showcasing student talent. We have a monthly author's tea, a yearly talent show, and a fun student council as well as a caring and supportive PTA. We strive to make sure students' voices are heard and put the students' needs first.
