My children are a diverse group. The majority of my students are African American. They are very eager to learn and work hard every day that they are at school. Unfortunately, many of them do not have proper nutrition, shelter, or stable homes to go home to. Most are considered living below the poverty level, often going home to empty houses where parents are working. Parent involvement in school activities is very limited due to working schedules and transportation limitations. My school is considered a neighborhood school with almost 400 students enrolled. It is an environment where teachers are committed to providing the best education they possibly can. Teachers are consistently working 60-70 hours weekly to do all they can to help their students achieve at their highest levels. As in most classrooms, my students are all on varying levels of academic achievement. So, being able to differentiate learning is a key component in helping the kids do their best.
