I have 20 students in my classroom and out of the 20 students I have 16 students where English is their second language. Many of my students come from low poverty neighborhoods. I have been told by parents and children how they do not have books at home. Many of them move around so much that they only have the necessities. I have been working in a Title 1 school now for 17 years and I realize how important books are to these students. The listening center gives them a chance to listen to vocabulary,it helps with pronunciation, and comprehension. For some of my students the first time they held a book was in my classroom. My students will choose a book from the treasure box over any toy in there. My students love to look at books, listen to stories, and use their imaginations.
