The donations of this project will create an area in the classroom for improving my first graders reading skills. My current classroom rug was bought at our local hardware store. It has a red, brown and green design with no specific marks for a seating chart. It is small and does not fit all of my students at once. About 10 of them usually end up sitting on the tile floor. The rug I am requesting is large enough to fit all 28 students and I would be able at assign each one their own leaf! The rug is where we come together multiple times a day for calendar, learning new material and sharing ideas. This corner of my classroom is also where students enjoy time reading. The bookshelf would be used to display books that connect to our current learning material. The cd/cassette player would be set up with a small table on the side of the rug. I currently have 6 working headphones and several books on tape and CDs but no player to listen to them on. Students would utilize the listening center during literacy stations.
