My classroom is filled daily with students who use literature, discussion, and their own writing as the means to illustrate their abilities to think critically. The learners who enter my door each day are excited and anxious to uncover new ideas and concepts in the texts that we read. I have seen this most recently in my American Literature classes--most days my students enter my classroom asking questions and drawing connections that illustrate their engagement in the text. Even now I can still hear them asking, "Mrs. Lyke, did you notice the biblical allusion when Dimmesdale was walking out of the forest?" and sharing observations like, "I noticed that the four main characters are only all together in the center of town, near the scaffold--that seems significant." It is these 'ah ha' moments that I live for each day.
