Children come in to Kindergarten excited to learn to read. In our classroom part of our day, every day, is "Read to Self." Students begin from day one to learn the three wants to read a book. They work independently on Read to Self, as well as Word Work, Work on Writing, Buddy Reading, and Listen to Reading each day in kindergarten. While students work independently, I will use the books to work in small guided reading groups. To be successful readers my children need more books at appropriate levels. The requested leveled readers will provide access to materials at their independent level which means that they will be able to practice reading strategies and build comprehension using "just right books". Students will be motivated to read and become successful readers. This will help them gain independence, increase their confidence, improve their fluency, writing skills and vocabularies. They will develop and build a love of reading that will in turn develop life long readers! Your donation will have a lifelong positive impact on my students. My children will be able to read these books independently, increasing their desire to practice which will increase their confidence and love of reading. These "just right books" will help my children build a strong foundation in reading, which will then help them throughout their school career and grow a love of reading.
