My students are middle school children grades 6-8. They are loving and caring children despite the many challenges they face. In my counseling office students come to me for a variety of different issues. Many of my students come from broken homes, poverty-stricken families, abusive environments, and the list goes on. They are wonderful children who are growing up with heavy burdens to bear. These challenges, unfortunately, restrict them from excelling and reaching their full potential. As a counselor, it breaks my heart that these students have so many obstacles to overcome at such a young age. The school does the best they can to provide support for our students, but like most schools, we have several challenges due to budget cuts. I would love to create an environment for them where they can feel comfortable. A place to come and forget about their stresses, even if it is for only a short period of time.
