Many students in my classroom are struggling readers. Reading is a skill that they do not find fun. Most students act out during reading time in an attempt to get out of work and learning. Many students come from homes that can not support academic needs, so often times, what they have access to in school is all these students have. It is important to me as an instructional coach to be able to vary instruction so that each child can benefit. Being in a financially struggling district makes it difficult to have materials to vary instruction and reach all learners. Our school just purchased new curriculum materials in a an effort to improve learning and student achievement. As a result of this budget expense, there is little money to order extras. As a priority school, we have an expectation to improve student achievement in all areas.
