I teach reading and writing to 36 fourth graders who come to school every day eager to learn. Their reading abilities range from the 1st grade level to the 7th grade level. My goal is to provide high-interest text to help students at all levels succeed, while opening their minds to the broad range of literature, including graphic novels. I teach in a rural district with over 50% of our students receiving free and reduced-price lunches. Many of my students have risk factors that could possibly have a negative impact on their ability to learn.
