My students struggle to read and it is difficult to get them interested in reading and to complete a whole book. Graphic novels, audio books and having books that are accessible to them that they can share and talk about will help them enjoy reading for a change. They need books at their interest level that they can access with lower reading levels. They look at books with all words on them and get overwhelmed and the books they can read look too babyish and they do not want to pick them up. These books will help them practice reading and improve their vocabulary, reading skills, and comprehension skills. If I can get them excited about one book, they will want to look for and read more and more books!
