We are in a small, rural community. Our school has computer access, but it's not adequate for our needs. Many of our computers are outdated and need repair. My students enter the classroom each morning to participate in silent reading time for their bell work. Students will then take Accelerated Reader tests on the computer to check for comprehension. Students are given different reading goals and rewarded for meeting them. Since implementing Accelerated Reader, I have seen an increase in my students' reading comprehension skills. However, I often have more students desiring to take a test than I have computers available. This project will help me to remedy this problem. Ideally, I would love to eventually have a classroom set of computers, but for now I hope to expand our computer center with one Chromebook. The more exposure to technology they have, the more successful they will be in the future. This exposure will help them transition through their middle school and high school years. This project will give them the opportunity to excel in so many areas of their academic career. It will also make learning more relevant to them, which is necessary in order to be successful.
