My students are 7th graders from a coastal community. They are incredibly interested in the ocean, which has led me to start a Marine Biology class. My school is supportive of my ideas, and has allowed me to create a program in which I take students to experience the ocean outside of the classroom. Regardless of whether they are collecting water samples and identifying phytoplankton species, using their knowledge of marine issues to create fliers and pamphlets, or creating a wall mosaic to educate their peers about marine organisms, they throw themselves into projects and spread their enthusiasm to those around them.
